The Gaslight Anthem-The '59 Sound....and Bad Mac 'n' Cheese

(8:49:11 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: I'll give you the honor of finding the link.
(8:49:31 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: its my choice tonight?
(8:49:42 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: You got it baby.
(8:49:57 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: what do you say we start it off with a good ol' New Jersey favorite,
(8:50:00 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: The Gaslight Anthem
(8:50:18 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: You read my mind, they just so happen to be playing on my playlist as we speak.
(8:50:23 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: Along with that new Queens album.
(8:50:32 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: ahaha nice
(8:50:33 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: alright
(8:50:38 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: do you need to the link then?
(8:50:59 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: I needn't any link, I had this shit playing right after you hit the hay last night and it hasn't stopped since.
(8:51:23 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: good stuff
(8:51:25 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: which album?
(8:51:31 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: Newest one, of course!
(8:51:42 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: absoultely h.i
(8:51:43 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: h.o
(8:52:46 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: ready to go
(8:53:02 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: Good deal, well, before we get started, notice the changes to the blog?
(8:53:12 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: havent signed on
(8:53:22 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: I took it upon myself to add a few additions, most notably a poll.
(8:53:37 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: alright ill check it out after all is said and done tonight
(8:53:50 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: It's the age old argument of who would win in a fight between Punisher and Batman.
(8:53:56 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: So far, Batman is in the lead by one whole vote.
(8:54:01 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: lmfao
(8:54:01 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: I wonder who that could be?
(8:54:02 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: you
(8:54:16 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: Alright, well I just finished Great Expectations.
(8:54:21 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: Solid track, good way to start the album.
(8:54:30 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: Good enough to keep me listening 'til '58 Sound.
(8:54:32 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: That's where it's at.
(8:55:14 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: id agree.. i love the lyrics to Great Expectations.. they really express the message that the band is trying to git across.. all about describing the good ol' days
(8:55:39 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: Oh, that's what they were talking about? I didn't notice.
(8:56:11 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: ahaha yeah.. most of their songs try to express having fun and just living life
(8:56:22 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: even though.. some like The 59 Sound.. can express somewhat sadness
(8:56:39 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: Oh, so it's the only realistic song on the album? No wonder it's my favorite.
(8:56:57 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: Not to say the entire album doesn't have jam galore.
(8:57:01 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: This one is definitely a stand out though.
(8:57:33 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: It's rather deceiving though, despite being titled the '59 Sound, at times this guys voice reminds me more of an 80's power ballad.
(8:57:37 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: Or maybe I'm just crazy.
(8:57:42 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: I'd go 50/50 between the 2.
(8:58:24 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: i dont hear the voice as much like that.. i just hear the grit and talking about losing someone.. at least that's what it sounds like to me
(8:58:42 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: hits close to home.. makes you wonder about afterlife and losing someone special
(8:59:03 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: Hold on, the mum made mac 'n' cheese.
(8:59:09 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: lmfao
(9:00:13 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: Mmmmm, cheese.
(9:00:20 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: Anyways, yes, losing a loved one.
(9:00:39 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: kinda a popular topic in most songs..
(9:00:46 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: The afterlife part, I can relate to that, as far as the loved ones, I'm part of the minority of adolescents that still have all 4 of his grandparents.
(9:01:03 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: youre lucky
(9:01:08 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: Point is, the closest to home that comes is when my bunny rabbit died.
(9:01:21 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: i had a duck that died of testicular cancer
(9:01:23 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: But yeah, I consider myself pretty lucky for it, all 4 of my grandparents are a HUGE part of my life, and I wouldn't be the same without them.
(9:01:48 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: alright so im hearing Old White Lincoln right now
(9:02:12 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: again the lyrics are just mezmerizing.. i know you dont notice those as much but for some people, like me, the lyrics make the song
(9:02:46 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: Yeah, I'd read them if it weren't for this crazy feeling off ADD I get when I see a songs lyrics that are longer than 4 lines.
(9:02:53 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: I'm on Here's Looking at You, Kid.
(9:03:03 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: And with much regret, I will admit, I'm skipping it.
(9:03:11 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: AH
(9:03:18 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: It's not that I have beef with some itself, just with slow songs in general.
(9:03:57 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: i gotta admit i feel different.. the song reminds me of not being the right guy for someone.. which seems to have happened to me once or twice in life..
(9:04:33 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: Once or twice to you, 50-100 with me, I lost count somewhere inbetween there.
(9:04:58 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: ahahha
(9:05:04 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: but i wanna back track to Miles Davis And The Cool
(9:05:12 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: Great track.
(9:05:13 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: its another great song on the album..
(9:05:34 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: It's got just about the same jam quality as '59 Sound.
(9:05:41 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: If not, more.
(9:06:09 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: i'd agree.. i think 59 Sound takes it.. but Miles Davis And The Cool is definitely jam worthy
(9:06:46 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: I would say '59 Sound take sit, if I hadn't just switched to Casanova, Baby!
(9:07:10 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: i enjoy that song.. but it's not one of my top songs on the album
(9:07:48 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: Well well well, if that's how you feel about it, maybe we shoulda' just done the Twilight album to begin with. Maybe that chick flick shit is right up your alley!
(9:08:03 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: hey hey bro calm the hell down
(9:08:08 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: the song is a complete jam
(9:08:16 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: its just there's tracks on this album i like better
(9:08:33 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: I'm sorry babe, it's not you, it's this mac 'n' cheese.
(9:08:35 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: I just realized.
(9:08:37 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: It's really bad.
(9:08:43 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: lmfao thats why i dont eat it
(9:09:01 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: And I can't help but feel a bit down, I was really looking forward to having dinner for the first time in......a month? Maybe?
(9:09:19 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: Mac N Cheese = satan wrestling noodles in cheese in down south Arkansas
(9:09:59 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: Beats the literal Satan's anal secretion that is caffeine.
(9:10:03 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: COUGHaddictCOUGH.
(9:10:14 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: alright let's not git sidetracked here
(9:10:22 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: we're talking about this magnificent album
(9:10:32 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: Lemme kick it back to High Lonesome
(9:10:55 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: I really enjoy the guitar work on this track
(9:11:15 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: upbeat but still maintains its strong sound
(9:11:53 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: I just turned on Even Cowgirls Get the Blues, and despite the completely blatant sexual beef that is displayed in the title, the jam is smooooooth.
(9:11:57 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: Smooth like Kanye.
(9:11:59 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: Solid like 7th hour.
(9:12:16 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: ahaha damn right it is
(9:12:30 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: and i gotta admit
(9:12:41 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: the album finished off with a great remembrance
(9:12:43 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: The Backseat
(9:13:01 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: The jamming out at the beginning of the Backseat is epic, for lack of better words.
(9:13:07 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: Then it just gets into solid jamming.
(9:13:17 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: +vocals, I mean.
(9:13:24 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: It is a quality end track.
(9:13:41 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: This album was arranged in perfect order, almost as if the album is telling a story, and I picked that up without even reading the lyrics.
(9:13:53 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: yeah i just like how it can relate to something teenagers know about.. love cars and life in general
(9:14:31 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: absoultely agreed.. with my noticing the lyrics.. take my word the lyrics are just intricately written and flow perfect with the sound of the album
(9:15:09 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: And they just strike me as the type of band that would do that, they're a story telling band. Maybe the sound isn't as comparable, but the feeling I get from this band is reminiscent of my Pearl Jam listening days.
(9:15:53 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: could be could be.. or could be their 1950/1960 influences, Roy Orbision, Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, and the rest.. that gave them great ideas and sound
(9:17:02 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: That's just it, they've got a little bit of everything to offer fans of rock, whether it be the absolute mainstreem nay-sayers like myself, or the Mtv rats like a certain Throwdown fan I know, this is a good band, and anyone that disagrees.
(9:17:09 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: Is probably not straight.
(9:17:14 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: In more ways than one.
(9:18:14 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: absoultely.. they offer EVERYTHING.. A to Z.. nothing's missing... its a tremendous album.. i could see this band gitting a lot of recognition in the near future
(9:18:54 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: I'm surprised they haven't already, this album gives off huge breakthrough potential. But what do I know about what people listen to these days? I find noise catchy at times.
(9:19:43 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: But that's irrelevant, point is, this is a great album, and if there's ever anyone that seriously reads all the way to this point, or reads at all, I would say this album is worth even getting off your ass, and buying.
(9:19:52 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: I sure as hell won't, but I hope some people do.
(9:20:22 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: lmao i feel that.. its important to purchase music these days.. iTunes or stores.. artists need money
(9:20:36 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: i'd give this album a solid 5 white tshirts out of 5
(9:21:14 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: I'd give it a 4.5 off-brand mac 'n' cheese boxes out 5. The slow tracks took away a bit for me, nothing personal.
(9:21:26 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: understandable
(9:21:36 PM) Scratchman Jenkins: check out the poll.. vote for the punisher.. batman blows
(9:22:31 PM) Dr. Zartan Prime: This blog wasn't created as a democracy, so I won't even bother trying to campaign myself here, let the peoples hearts decide. As we all know where their loyalty lies here.
